Dozens of celebrities evacuate as Los Angeles fires consume homes
By Sarah Muller
Dozens of celebrities are among those affected by the bushfires in California, including Kim Kardashian West, Will Smith, Alyssa Milano, Cher and Iggy Azalea, with many uncertain whether they have lost their homes.
The fires have destroyed around 7000 structures across the US state, flattened entire towns, and reportedly killed 11 people.
Among the nearly 52,000 people who were mandatorily evacuated were a host of celebrities living west of Los Angeles in California.
Kim Kardashian West wrote on Twitter on Saturday that their house was affected in the fire, but her family were safe "and that's all that matters".
"I heard the flames have hit our property at our home in Hidden Hills but now are more contained and have stopped at the moment... I just pray the winds are in our favour," she wrote on Twitter.
"Fire fighters, I love you and thank you for doing all that you can to keep us safe!" she wrote.
Marvel movie director Scott Derrickson confirmed his house was lost in the fires on Saturday.
"We lost our home, but we are all safe and that's the important thing. Gonna be offline for a while," the Doctor Strange director wrote.
Lady Gaga, Khloe Kardasian, Alyssa Milano, Will Smith, Cher, Guillermo del Toro and Iggy Azalea joined the thousands of evacuated persons waiting to learn whether their homes were lost.
Actor James Woods was posting frequently on social media, offering his Twitter page as a "bulletin board for info" to co-ordinate and share reports of missing persons and animals.
Meanwhile, Charlie Sheen said he had lost contact with his parents Martin and Janet Sheen during the "horrific scenario" while with a group on Zuma Beach.
However, the pair were located safe after being interviewed on FOX 11 News.
A wildfire that tore through Malibu mansions and working-class suburban homes claimed the lives of the most recent two victims.
