Influencer’s new boyfriend bears uncanny resemblance to ex-husband
By Lucy Manly
We all have a “type” but it seems the newly separated ex-wife of celebrity trainer Jono Castano has a very distinct preference when it comes to her latest boyfriend. Emerald City can reveal Amy Castano is currently loved-up with professional soccer star Aaron Evans.
The pair are understood to have been low-key dating for some time, with one acquaintance suggesting the pair met on Instagram.
They have certainly not been shy on the social media platform – there’s been a steady stream of back and forth flirty comments on his Instagram photos from Amy as well as her business page Acero, the gym which she co-owns with ex-husband Jono.
Evans, who hails from Canberra, has been based in Asia for the last nine years where he plays professional soccer. After spending the past few months in Sydney, he left several days ago telling his 92,000 Instagram followers he will announce the latest team he has signed with in the coming days.
It would be remiss not to mention Amy’s ex Jono shares a number of strikingly similar tattoos to Evans and also played professional soccer once upon a time for Academia F.C. – a Colombian soccer team, based in Bogotá.
Castano has also moved on, although his latest squeeze isn’t Amy 2.0. The celebrity PT is currently dating model and reality star Simone Holtznagel, who trains at his Kensington gym along with her younger sister, Madeleine, who dates Merivale tsar Justin Hemmes. By the sounds of things Castano and Holtznagel can barely keep their hands off another - the pair were spied getting hot and heavy at Mimi’s restaurant last month and last week spent a cosy evening together at the launch of QT Newcastle joining the likes of Christian Wilkins, actor Ben Mingay and MasterChef’s Reece Hignell. Emerald City is told the pair slipped away early, perhaps to take in the ocean views offered by some of the rooms?
But while the Castanos are dating new partners, the former couple continue to share custody of their thriving gym, training a who’s who of Sydney scenesters, sportsmen and celebrities including ex-cricketer Michael Clarke, former Real Housewife of Sydney Krissy Marsh and Merivale culinary director Dan Hong.
Sydney nightclub identity John Ibrahim mentors actors on set
Sydney nightclub identity John Ibrahim has taken like a duck to water as executive producer on Paramount+’s buzzy Australian drama series, The Last King of the Cross. Emerald City understands Ibrahim, who now focuses solely as a landlord for his extensive property portfolio, is being very hands-on in his approach to his serialised memoir turned 10-part series which is currently in production.
‘Teflon’ John, as he’s oft referred, was spied a number of times onset last week where filming took place at Flamingo Lounge – formerly Hugos Lounge – at 33 Bayswater Road in Kings Cross. Ibrahim has taken on a mentoring role with actor Lincoln Younes who will play him on screen. Next week Reservoir Dogs actor Tim Roth is due to touch down in the Harbour City where he will be joining the cast as fictional character Ezra Shipman - the reigning King of The Cross. Preparing for his role the celebrated British actor is understood to be breaking bread with Ibrahim before his scenes commence. The former underworld identity has a lot to celebrate after long-time girlfriend Sarah Budge was spied sporting a giant diamond sparkler while taking the couple’s newborn son Elvis on a stroll through Double Bay last week.
Double Bay diamonds in the rough
It was a special night on Thursday as 250 VIP guests stepped out in celebration of the Sydney Roosters Foundation launch. A pre-dinner knees-up was hosted at luxury fine jewellery brand House of K’dor by couple and event sponsors Zena and Tarick K’dor before being escorted into the Grand Ballroom at the InterContinental Double Bay. The VIP crowd included freight boss Arthur Tzaneros and wife Maude, property developers Michael and Barbara Coombes, businessman Rob Cassen and new wife and former ballerina Brooke Lockett, Terri Biviano and Anthony ‘The Count’ Minicello.
However, Emerald City certainly noticed a number of important faces missing in action including Roosters board member and Yellow Brick road founder Mark Bouris who fellow board member Peter Newton joked was at home with a spider bite.
Former Nine Network boss and staunch Roosters supporter David Gyngell was in good spirits on the evening however missing in action was his better-half Leila McKinnon. Rugby league great turned insurance broker Luke Ricketson was also flying solo without his glamorous wife Kate Waterhouse. Perhaps Kate was at home packing for their European holiday that ties in with their 10 year wedding anniversary. The event raised a whopping $1.1 million that will offer support for all programs whereby individuals and groups can contribute to the success of the Club, in partnership with the Australian Sports Foundation. Renowned for the beauty of its custom jewellery pieces, and where John Ibrahim is rumoured to have purchased fiancé Sarah’s engagement ring, the House of K’dor generously donated one of their dazzling handcrafted diamond rings valued at $10,000 for the evening’s ‘Lucky Key Giveaway’. However, the female guest who won the bauble was shy when having her name made public.
