US rings alarm on China’s Antarctic interests
Washington/Tokyo | The United States has warned co-operation between countries to safeguard Antarctica from resources development is “crumbling”, amid growing concern over China’s ambitions in the fragile region.
US Assistant Secretary of State Monica Medina told a major international meeting on Antarctic conservation in Hobart this week that collaboration was urgently needed to agree on creating more protected areas.
