Surfside, Florida | Rescue crews found another body in the rubble of a collapsed 12-storey condominium tower near Miami on Saturday (Sunday AEST), raising the death toll to five as they raced to save survivors while fighting back fire and smoke deep inside the concrete and metal remains.

The search went on as a 2018 engineering report emerged that showed the ground-floor pool deck of the collapsed building was resting on a concrete slab that had “major structural damage” and needed to be extensively repaired. It also had “abundant cracking and spalling” of concrete columns, beams and walls in the parking garage.
