Washington | President Donald Trump said he would likely impose tariffs on cars, semiconductor chips and pharmaceutical imports of about 25 per cent, with an announcement coming as soon as April 2.
The new duties, if implemented, would widen the president’s trade war. Trump previously announced 25 per cent tariffs on steel and aluminum that are set to take effect in March, but the new comments are his most detailed yet in specifying other sectors that would be hit with fresh barriers.
