Washington | Conservative political strategist Sir Lynton Crosby says Donald Trump is better placed to win an already “tight” 2020 presidential race after last week's Republican National Convention revealed the President setting the campaign’s agenda on the economy and re-energising his already motivated base.

While conceding some of what Mr Trump is doing – such as setting up the idea that postal voting abuses will steal the election – is "risky”, Sir Lynton said the President would be “highly competitive” on election day if he gets more people thinking about his plans for the economy.
