Washington | After shoring up support from their bases, President Joe Biden and Donald Trump are gearing up for a battle for middle America – millions of independent voters who could decide the November 5 presidential election.

The Democrat and Republican rivals are changing policies and modifying rhetoric on issues ranging from abortion to electric vehicles, as public opinion polls show support is tight among voters in the centre.
