Impeachment, more arrests and golf: the key points

That's all for our rolling coverage of the end of Donald Trump's presidency and the transition of power to Joe Biden. Join us tomorrow for full coverage as inauguration day on January 20 approaches.

Here are the main points from today:

  • Congressional Democrats on Monday (Tuesday) begin a two-pronged drive to force President Trump from office for inciting the Capitol riots last week. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Democrats will ask Vice President Mike Pence to remove Trump under the Constitution's 25th Amendment and if he does not they will begin impeachment proceedings.
  • Authorities made more arrests of people alleged to have taken part in the riots, including two men who were photographed in the Senate with zip ties. Counterterrorism prosecutors are taking part in the investigation, which will include if any rioters had plans to harm members of Congress.
  • The US professional golf body is cutting ties with Trump, starting with taking away the PGA Championship scheduled to be played at the President's golf course in New Jersey next year.
  • Movie star and former Republican governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger compared the mob that stormed the US Capitol to Nazis who took part in Kristalnacht in Germany prior to World War II, in a video detailing his experience of the fallout from fascism in his home country of Austria.
