It’s easy to blame the US president-elect for everything but what brought the Canadian prime minister down is more retail politics than global conspiracies.

Washington | Don’t fall into the trap of blaming, or thanking, US President-elect Donald Trump for Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s resignation.

Although being trolled as “the governor of the 51st state” or threatened with 25 per cent tariffs didn’t do an already-battered Trudeau any favours, the progressive standard-bearer succumbed to the same voter pressures over the cost of living and seemingly out-of-control immigration that helped Trump back into the White House.
