London | The UK government moved swiftly on Saturday (Sunday AEST) to take control of operations at the Chinese-owned British Steel, in what appeared to be a major step towards nationalising the country’s last crude steel-making plant.
In an unusual and dramatic move, the government had summoned legislators back from vacation on Saturday to approve the government’s emergency legislation.
