A group of 13 visually impaired Ukrainian children and their families are enjoying a little Christmas cheer after being rescued in a daring operation deep into the war-ravaged country financed via a charity set up by an Australian fund manager.
The 36-hour round trip from Moldova to the southern Ukrainian cities of Zaprozhzhia and Odessa and back was set up across three time zones by Australian-Ukrainian fund manager Alex Vynokur, founder and chief executive of BetaShares, and lifelong British humanitarian activist Sally Becker.
