Copenhagen | President Vladimir Putin has emerged publicly to blast an aborted weekend mutiny as treacherous and a betrayal, even as Wagner Group mercenary boss Yevgeny Prigozhin said he never intended to mount a coup.

Mr Putin’s unscheduled television address late on Monday night (Tuesday morning AEST) ended 48 hours’ speculation as to where he was and how he might react to Mr Prigozhin’s challenge to his authority, which left his regime looking vulnerable and shaken.
