Geneva | A record 9.5 million COVID-19 cases were counted over the past week as the omicron variant swept the planet, 71 per cent more than the previous seven-day period in what the World Health Organisation likened to a tsunami.
But the number of weekly recorded deaths declined, in another sign omicron may be less severe than previous strains of the virus.
