It’s the day I’ve been dreading. Will my passionate belief in our constitutional monarchy be able to overcome my antipathy towards Prince – oh, sorry, scratch that – King Charles? Talk about testing times.

My dislike of Charles is both personal and political. I’ll get onto my unhappy encounter with the man in a moment, but suffice to say it involved champagne, a dance floor and Princess Diana.
