A turning point in Andrew Hunter’s mission to bring AFL to China came over lunch at an Adelaide restaurant with a Chinese property tycoon in 2016.

Port Adelaide Football Club had just signed a three-year sponsorship agreement with Gui Guojie, a billionaire who had teamed up with Gina Rinehart to battle the Kidman cattle empire. Hunter says the mood was “ebullient”.
