Singapore/Jakarta | For the past two years, an Indonesian Islamic extremist who funnelled money into south-east Asia to finance deadly bomb blasts has been assumed dead.

The consensus view is that Saifullah – alias Daniel, alias Chaniago – was killed by a United States drone attack in Afghanistan in 2019. He is thought to have died in the Khorasan region where Islamic State followers retreated after their defeat in Syria, spawning Islamic State Khorasan (IS-K).
