Tokyo | Japan’s outspoken Australian ambassador Shingo Yamagami has spoken about returning to Tokyo just two years into his posting following questions about his diplomatic style in both Canberra and Japan’s capital.

Mr Yamagami, who raised eyebrows in both countries last month after warning Australia to be “vigilant” against China, flagged his departure during a speech at a reception in Canberra last week to celebrate the Japanese Emperor’s birthday.
