Abbott urges deeper ties with Taiwan on eve of poll
The former prime minister says there is no reason why prime ministerial visits to the island should not occur.
Australian prime ministers should step up engagement with Taiwan’s political leadership, including potentially visiting the self-governed island despite China’s likely objections, according to Tony Abbott.
On the eve of crucial Taiwanese elections, Mr Abbott repeated calls for Australia to back Taiwan’s entry into the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade pact.
