Professor sacked for relationship with student gets his job back

A university professor has won his job back and $28,000 after he was sacked for exchanging intimate emails and texts with a PhD student who was in love with him and once sought to strip via FaceTime.

The Fair Work Commission ruled the University of Melbourne had a valid reason to dismiss engineering academic Stephan Matthai over the “highly inappropriate” messages, including a photo of himself in his boxer shorts, writing on the five love languages and emotive and poetic emails.
