How much of my divorce payout can I put away in super?

Using the downsizer and bring-forward non-concessional contribution rules, you may be able to deposit large lump sums into super.

Debra Cleveland

Dear Ms Wise, I am getting divorced and wondering how much of my settlement I can put into super. I have $900,000 in my fund. We are selling the family home and I have already bought somewhere smaller for myself. Are there timing issues around when particular contributions need to be made? I am 63. Nicky

A: With $900,000 in super, Nicky can contribute up to $420,000 this financial year and $360,000 in 2025-26, says Colin Lewis, the head of strategic advice at Fitzpatricks Advice Partners.
