OpenInvest co-founder and chief executive Andrew Varlamos hopes to succeed where the Australian Securities Exchange has failed by building an independent investment platform where retail investors can identify, compare and invest in respected money managers.

Mr Varlamos says in many respects the OpenInvest platform is seeking to improve on the ASX's mfund program, which has sought to give investors direct access to fund managers but has failed to gain much traction.
