Start-up apologises for ‘offensive’ male-led girls’ club announcement

Blackbird Ventures-backed start-up Kiki has apologised for its “incredibly offensive” handling of its plans for a New York “girls’ club”, clarifying the shift aims to prop up lagging demand for its subletting marketplace.

Kiki, which raised $7 million at a $42 million valuation last year, announced in January that the company’s first female employee in America, Caitlin Emiko, had “enlightened” the team about women feeling isolated in New York.
