Optus sales staff sacked amid $100m fine for unconscionable conduct

Optus has agreed to pay a $100 million fine, almost equal its entire profit in the last year after accepting that its staff had been overly aggressive and pushed unneeded products on vulnerable and disadvantaged customers.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission sued Optus over its sales practices in October, which included putting “undue pressure” on people to buy phones and contracts, even though some could not use the services at home because there was no coverage where they lived.
