New $65m Honiara embassy as Pacific aid hits a record

Australia will spend $65 million building a new High Commission in the Solomon Islands capital of Honiara amid record aid for the Pacific, where the federal government is seeking to counter Chinese influence.

The government lifted its aid funding to the Pacific region to $1.85 billion in 2022-23. It also doubled the Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific to $3 billion.
