Meta is considering blocking news on its Australian platforms and stopping local users from sharing links to news articles if the government forces the social media giant to pay news organisations for their content.
The move is an escalation in the dispute between Meta and the government and local media companies, sparked after Meta announced in March it would not renew its existing deals with news organisations negotiated in 2021.
