iPhone Air review: why buy anything else?

Having used the iPhone Air and the iPhone 17 Pro for just four days now, we’ve come to the conclusion that the Air and the Pro exist in the iPhone world in a relationship very similar to their relationship in the MacBook world.

A week from now, the team here at the Digital Life Labs will have to publish a review of Apple’s new iPhone 17 Pro, giving reasons why you might prefer it over the subject of today’s review, Apple’s new iPhone Air.

I’m sure we’ll come up with a list of reasons. The Pro is more colourful, for starters, by which I mean it has actual colour in its casing. For reasons best understood by Apple, the iPhone Air has the most anaemic colour palette of any phone in living memory. We’re almost certain we’ve been reviewing the most colourful Air, the “Sky Blue” model, though in daylight we’re not sure, and think maybe it could be the white one. That’s how pale the colours are.
