Peak start-up; that's what it feels like in Australia at the moment, as all of a sudden the long-ignored venture capital and technology industries are centre stage in national debate.

Politicians are scrambling to one-up each other as both sides of power attempt to "own" the digital economy as an issue. Everywhere you look there's a start-up event, someone is opening a new venture capital fund and terms like the blockchain, crowdfunding and disruption are being bandied about, often inappropriately.
