Newly installed Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has a reputation of encouraging start-ups but one area in which Australia has an advantage, quantum computing, is set to test that reputation.

Australian researchers, notably those at the Australian Research Council's Centre of Excellence in Quantum Computation at the University of NSW, are considered to be perhaps two to three years ahead of overseas groups in creating the first, undisputed, truly useful quantum – a significant advantage in this competitive field.
