Santos, Woodside bosses met in recent weeks, deal ‘5pc’ advanced
Woodside Energy and Santos’ talks on a potential $80 billion merger started in earnest after the latter’s investor day last month, and a deal between the two listed oil and gas majors is about “5 per cent advanced”, according to sources close to the deal.
It is understood the preliminary discussions have included at least one in-person meeting between Woodside chief executive, Meg O’Neill, and her counterpart at Santos, Kevin Gallagher. Sources said that while there was no proposal or offer on the table, both sides had agreed “in principle” to explore the idea.
