Beer giant will take the next round of Coronas off Lion
The wait for the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's determination on the local clearance of the $143 billion mega-merger between brewing giants ABI and SABMiller is almost over, with the watchdog set to hand down its judgement on the Antipodean end on Thursday.
The process has been delayed a couple of times as the ACCC asked relevant parties for more information. However, there is now expected to be relatively little local fallout, particularly given the deal has been cleared in all other jurisdictions.
One move that could be accelerated as a result of the deal is ABI shifting control of the Australian licence for Corona, the biggest imported beer in Australia, across from Lion Nathan to SABMiller.
