Some Chinese officials have rubbished the notion COVID-19 originated in a wet market in Wuhan (where its earliest victims worked, and where genetic samples of it were subsequently detected). Or, indeed, suggested it didn't originate anywhere within China at all.
Few seem convinced. Though, some Western corporations are deeply reliant on Chinese custom. Is comical whitewashing of the coronavirus’ origins now a cost of doing big business there?
