A new banking boss is always going to presage some exits. The only surprise is how long it’s taken National Australia Bank chief executive Andrew Irvine to have his furniture rearranged.
Irvine was elevated to be CEO and managing director in April last year, promoted from business banking boss, which by most measures would be the most important division at NAB. On Monday, Irvine swiftly moved on his successor in that role, announcing Rachel Slade would be out by July.
