Australia’s tennis diplomacy in the United States bedded in a new institution over the weekend.

Readers will recall former ambassador Michael Cook had a lawn tennis court installed at the ambassador’s residence (known as White Oaks) in the 1990s. But it fell into disrepair and was even used as a rough soccer pitch, until Joe Hockey convinced then-Westfield US chief Peter Lowy to put up the funds to lovingly restore it in 2017.
