Political independent (and former journalist) Zoe Daniel secured the seat of Goldstein from the Liberals’ Tim Wilson in 2022. The man (and his party) have never forgiven her.

Wilson has secured Liberal preselection for his old seat, meaning a bitter rematch will take place at the next election. He’s scouring far and wide for donations, earlier this year going so far as Sydney where distant supporters were memorably urged to “be fertiliser” for the “roses of success”. But most of this kind of thing is done close to home.

This piece was clarified to make clear that 78 per cent of large, disclosable donations to Zoe Daniels came from Climate200. The fundraising body’s contribution as a part of all the donations to the independent MP (that is, not just the large ones) is some 40 per cent.
