It’s almost four years to the day since the Rio Tinto Juukan Gorge calamity. And as of this month, Melbourne-based senior independent director Simon McKeon (who parlayed the disaster into a promotion and a pay rise) has moved on.

He stepped down from Rio’s board on May 2. And this week he announced his departure as chancellor of Monash University, a position he has held since 2016.
