Metcash’s Project Horizon has been dubbed a textbook case of how not to manage a large-scale technology project. But if you thought that meant the business’ top executives shouldn’t be rewarded for overseeing it, you’ll be disappointed.

As was recently explored at length in this newspaper, Project Horizon was an ill-fated and so far undelivered plan to move all of Metcash’s businesses onto a unified Microsoft operating stack. Its delivery is the single-largest component of Metcash’s short-term executive incentive grants (though its precise significance to the allocation is not disclosed).
