The government’s failure to legislate a much-mooted draught beer tax cut must thrill Labor fundraisers in key battleground seats.

On Tuesday night, he unveiled an election budget that thumbed its nose at one of Australia’s most powerful lobby groups, The Australian Hotels Association, which was sure it had a 50 per cent cut on draught beer excise more or less in the bag.
