Softer month fails to dent building approvals momentum in August

New dwelling approvals strengthened in the year to August as weaker monthly figures failed to dent the momentum of an industry buoyed by record low interest rates.

Total approvals rose to 238,204 in seasonally adjusted terms in the 12 months to August, the highest since January's 238,213, Australian Bureau of Statistics figures on Tuesday showed.
