Thousands of high-rise buildings like Mascot Towers and Sydney's Opal Tower are at risk of cracking because of systemic issues in the building and construction industries, an expert has warned.

"These are just two of the thousands that are going to be evacuated in the future," said property consultant Edwin Almeida.
