Tamawood blames weather, regulator QBCC for fall in profit

Michael Bleby

Home builder Tamawood said net profit fell 7.8 per cent in the six months to December as it lost close to a month's worth of work due to wet weather and as regulatory costs increased.

The east coast-based builder, which does 85 per cent of its work in Queensland under the Dixon Homes brand, said net after-tax profit fell to $4.2 million in the first half from $4.6 million a year earlier. The firm said the drop came after 16 days of continuous inclement weather in November shut its operations down and as it hired more staff in response to what it said was a QBCC state regulator clamp down and increase in so-called show cause notices of faulty workmanship.
