Worsening housing affordability, tradie shortages, and a lack of zoned land have killed the ambition of many Australians to move out of big cities with new figures showing house approvals have fallen sharply in many regional markets.

The trend – known popularly as the sea change and tree change phenomenon– boomed following the pandemic as people looked to escape the virus-riddled capital cities.
