Sentiments expressed by large developers at The Australian Financial Review Property Summit contain nothing of note that we have not read many times before. Too much red tape, increases in local planning costs, unaffordable infrastructure levies and escalating costs within the various building trades have all been raised over many years as causes of rising costs in the building industry (“Developers warn rising costs ruling out affordable homes”). The AFR View also laments the doubling of housing costs since the turn of the century (“Labor targets the right housing supply solutions”).
