New home sales slump as buyers dump contracts

Sales of newly built homes slumped by 4.6 per cent nationwide in the December quarter, the sharpest decline since the onset of the pandemic, as demand dried up amid rising interest rates, a HIA report shows.

Existing home sales also plummeted by 27.3 per cent in the fourth quarter, compared with the same period in the previous year, fuelled by low listings, according to CoreLogic.
