Home builder avoids collapse as Andrews lashes Greens over housing

The parent company of Melbourne builders Eight Homes and Urbanedge Homes has avoided liquidation after going into voluntary administration as Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews accused the Greens of “standing in the way” of new social and affordable housing.

More than 730 builds were put on hold when Mahercorp entered voluntary administration five weeks ago but chief executive Steve Maher said work would resume for customers who agreed to a 90-day delay and a 6.5 per cent increase, costing on average nearly $20,000, from June 12.
