Solar splurge puts rebranded mall giant on track for net zero by 2026
The country’s biggest neighbourhood shopping centre landlord is on track to achieve carbon-neutral status three to four years ahead of schedule, after ramping up its investment in solar energy generation, says Anthony Mellowes, chief executive of SCA Property Group, which on Wednesday rebranded to Region Group at its AGM.
The owner and manager of 104 convenience malls valued at over $4.4 billion is investing $20 million per annum over five years to lift its solar generation capacity from 6.2 megawatts this year – following installations at its WA malls – to 25MW by 2026, as the program is rolled out on the East Coast.
