Receivers have put Sorrento's Continental Hotel back up for sale following a series of failed attempts to redevelop the Mornington Peninsula landmark.

The majestic but crumbling 145-year-old limestone hotel is owned by Melbourne hotelier Julian Gerner's Continental Development Pty Ltd, which was placed in the hands of receivers at PKF at the end of October.
