Pub owner ALE drinks toast to rising rents

Australia's biggest pub landlord, ALE Property Group, was not affected by the closure of its properties during the pandemic, with its tenant, Woolworths-backed operator ALH, paying full rent during the past financial year.

While ALE acknowledged that the licensed hotel industry had been "significantly impacted" by the COVID-19 pandemic, with all 86 of its hotels operated by ALH closing their doors during the first lockdown, departing chief executive Andrew Wilkinson said it had provided no rent relief.
