Malls stay open as social distancing rules tighten

Major shopping mall landlords have moved to shutter any cinemas, gyms and pubs across their portfolios in an effort to combat the spread of the deadly coronavirus, after being spared from more sweeping closures by the federal government.

The restrictions announced by Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Sunday – which include pubs, clubs, hotels, gyms, cinemas and entertainment venues – are less onerous than the broader shutdown on all non-essential activity first mooted by NSW and Victoria.
