Developers can’t agree on energy efficiency rules

Australia’s largest property industry groups are at odds over plans to update the National Construction Code to impose higher energy efficiency standards on new residential buildings.

Standards for homes in the code, a set of rules states and territories implement, have not been upgraded for 12 years and the Property Council of Australia backs a plan to move to a seven-star minimum NatHERS thermal rating for new homes and apartments from the current six-star equivalent.
