Farmers buy back Shenhua’s coal mine land at 36pc discount

The neighbours who campaigned against Shenhua’s planned Watermark coal mine near the NSW town of Gunnedah have picked up land sold by the retreating Chinese miner at an average 36 per cent discount.
Twelve local farming families and one offshore corporate buyer carved up the 16,500 ha holding spread across three aggregations in a $120 million deal put together by CBRE.
